At Wisco Home Goods, we’ve always believed that candles should do more than just smell nice on the shelf—they should actually perform when you light them. That means they need to smell amazing, burn cleanly, and make your space feel like home.

So when we decided to revamp our candle line—with fresh new jars, upgraded labels, and a whole new vibe—we knew we couldn’t just stop with the packaging.

We had to dig deeper.

We had to rethink the wick.

I know, you’re probably thinking—“Wait a minute. Didn’t you revamp a year ago?”

Fair question. And yes—we totally did! We rolled out new jars, new labels, and an updated look that we’re still head-over-heels in love with. But here’s the thing… life happened.

Turns out launching a full-on brand refresh right in the middle of your busiest season is, well… a lot. And when you’re a two-person team doing everything from pouring candles to shipping orders to running the shop, some things—like telling the full story—take a backseat.

We knew the wick was a huge part of what made the new candles shine, but we just didn’t have the bandwidth to shout about it at the time.

So here we are. A little late, but just as proud. Because better late than never, right?

Wait, the Wick? Why That Matters So Much

Yep. The wick is the unsung hero of every candle. It might not look like much, but it controls everything—how your candle burns, how much fragrance it releases, and even how long it lasts.

Let’s talk about one of the most common issues we see with mass-produced candles: under-wicking.

The Problem with Under-Wicked Candles

You know that feeling when you bring home a candle, light it up, and... nothing? No smell. No ambiance. Just a weak little flame doing its best?

That usually means the candle is under-wicked—meaning the wick is too small or too weak for the amount of wax in the jar. It’s like trying to toast a marshmallow over a birthday candle. It’s just not enough.

Here’s what happens with an under-wicked candle:
